Why is it worth buying a skimmer?
It is believed that garden pool owners are people who have few problems in life. This can be different and this view can and should be discussed, but there is at least one problem that each of them has to deal with: how to keep the water in the pool clean. In order to solve this problem, a device called a pool skimmer is extremely useful for them.
To indulge in the luxury of your own pool - whether it's an Olympic-sized brick swimming pool or a small PVC expansion pool with a diameter of two meters - the water in it should maintain a quality that allows you to enjoy the bath . And this is far from its eternal and unchanging property - stagnant water is exposed, for example, to external dirt or microbial attacks. That's why pool owners buy accessories that help maintain the right water level. In addition to the filter pump and pool chemistry, a popular feature is the skimmer, a type of surface filter that removes larger contaminants floating on the water surface from the tank. They are the first to catch the eye of pool users and spoil their fun.
What is a pool skimmer?
Pool skimmers are among the basic features of its equipment. It is a type of filter, a small device that is designed to collect visible impurities from the water surface, such as leaves, twigs, insects, petals or dust. Pool skimmers are therefore designed to lighten the main filter of the water pump. The pool skimmer is also called a collector or surface filter and is mounted on top of the pool wall and is connected directly to the filter pump, although there are also models that float freely on the water. Connecting the skimmer to the pump is simple and intuitive, so it does not cause problems even for people without technical knowledge. Skimmers are most often hung on the side wall of pools, at water level, using a built-in hook with adjustable length, which allows you to control the height at which the device is to be placed.
How does the skimmer work?
The pump forces the water to move with the suction, causing larger impurities to fall into the eye or basket of the skimmer cooperating with it and being retained by it, while water with smaller impurities goes into the pump filter and is cleaned from them and then re-enters the pool . When more foreign elements accumulate in the skimmer's tank, all you have to do is rinse the net, get rid of the dirt and use it again, repeating this cycle from time to time. Skimmers are suitable for pumps of any capacity and basically any type. Skimmers for pools are made of non-corrosive material. They work very quietly, so they do not disturb the peace of the users of the pool.
Why pool pools are needed?
However, since the pump itself is equipped with a sand or cartridge filter, what is the purpose of an additional surface filter? Are both necessary? Yes. The pump filter cannot cope with larger dirt floating on the surface and could easily clog and even damage it. Skimmers prevent larger contaminants from entering the pump filter, extending its life. In addition, not all of them would be pumped from the water surface - the pool collector collects them in its container and you do not have to catch them individually by hand, for example using a pool net.

However, removing large elements that pollute the pool is not the only possible feature of the skimmer. It can also be two devices in one. There are models, such as the INTEX pool skimmer, which allows you not only to increase the efficiency of other filtration equipment by initially capturing impurities from the water, but also to improve its quality. Skimmers of this type are additionally equipped with a pool chemistry vessel into which a chlorine tablet is placed, which is gradually dissolved and mixed with water. As a result, there is no need for a separate chemical dispenser in the pool, nor are we forced to apply it directly to the water by hand - which can be unhealthy for us and detrimental to the pool coating (eg discoloration).
Is it a good idea to invest in a skimmer?
Yes, it pays to buy a skimmer for both a large tank and a small pool. It is a device with a relatively simple structure and operation, and therefore it is cheap. It is also easy to use. If we want high-quality water, low consumption of other cleaning elements and we prefer to avoid manually cleaning the water from dirt, swimming pools should be equipped with quality skimmers. The more water purification equipment, the better for it and for us, of course. Buying a skimmer will definitely pay off. Especially since the cost of the device isn't usually high.
